The effect of age at time of cochlear implantation on the pragmatic development of the prelingual hearing impaired children

Abstract Background Pragmatics is the social use of language that draws on understanding human interactions in specific contexts and requires engagement with a communicative partner or partners. The hearing-impaired children are known to have pragmatic delay as hearing impairment deprived exposure natural communication interactions, addition they have. Since age implantation has emerged an important predictor language, hearing, speech who cochlear implants (CI), question aroused about benefits early development those children. Thus, this study aims compare prelingual impaired implanted before 3 years after years. Results two groups showed no significant differences regard their scores Egyptian Arabic Pragmatic Language Test (EAPLT). studied had below 5th percentile. Among groups, EAPLT were positively correlated children, children’s abilities, duration received rehabilitation, correlation implantation. Conclusions impact CI. CI susceptible delays primarily related besides experience interactions. These results should be considered rehabilitative plan advocate importance incorporation behaviors into intervention programs.
